Resize a photo for social posts and banners

Platforms crop whether you like it or not. Start from a frame that matches the post: square, portrait, story, landscape, or a LinkedIn banner. This tool cover-crops to the preset so faces stay in the middle as much as possible.

When to use this

Use presets when you care about the crop. A max-width resize keeps the whole photo; a 1080×1080 preset will cut the sides or top of a landscape shot.

After you post, Instagram and X will compress again. Exporting at the native size (1080 wide for feed) avoids an extra downscale on their side.

LinkedIn banners are very wide. A phone photo will lose a lot of top and bottom. Check that the subject is centered before you download.

How to do it

  1. Drop the photo.
  2. Pick a preset: Instagram post, portrait, story/Reel, X, or LinkedIn banner.
  3. Download the JPG. If a face got clipped, recrop in an editor. This tool only center-crops.

Tips

  • Stories are 1080×1920. A landscape photo will keep a thin strip through the middle.
  • Leave a little space around faces; apps add UI chrome on stories.
  • If the file is still over an upload cap, run the fit-limit tool on the cropped result.

FAQ

Can I choose which part is cropped?
Not yet. The crop is centered. For a custom focal point, crop in Photos or Figma first, then drop the file here.
Why does it still look soft on Instagram?
The network recompresses. Export at the preset size and quality around 0.88; going to 1.0 rarely survives their encoder.
Are files uploaded to a social scheduler?
No. This page never talks to Instagram or LinkedIn.
