Resize to YouTube thumbnail size (1280×720)

YouTube thumbnails are 1280×720. This page cover-crops to that frame in your browser so the upload tool does not squash a tall phone photo. Nothing is uploaded to us.

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, HEIC, or AVIF. Your photos stay on this device.

When to use this

Use this when you have a still that should fill the 16:9 thumbnail. Cover-crop is the default: a square photo will lose top and bottom. Put the subject in the centre, and keep important detail out of the lower-right where timestamps sit.

YouTube accepts JPG or PNG. JPG at quality around 0.88 is plenty. This page does not add title text on the thumbnail. If you need big type, add it first, then drop the file here so the pixel size is exact.

You can override width and height if a brief asked for 1920×1080 instead. Fit can switch to contain if you must keep a whole poster with bars.

Need text or a custom crop first? Photasium, then come back. After download, compress if the app still has a size cap.

How to do it

  1. Drop one or more photos. They stay on this device.
  2. Leave the size on 1280×720 unless you need to override.
  3. Fit is cover. Change it if you must keep the whole picture or fill the frame.
  4. Download each file, or a zip of the batch.

Tips

  • Leave the lower-right clear of faces; the duration stamp sits there.
  • A 4000px phone photo is wasted. 1280×720 is the size that counts.
  • After you post, the app will compress again. Quality around 0.88 is enough.
  • Need a different crop? Use Photasium then drop the file back here.

FAQ

Why 1280×720?
That is YouTube’s recommended thumbnail size (16:9). Larger files are scaled down.
Can I add title text here?
No. This only sizes the picture. Add text in an editor, then export 1280×720 here.
Do my photos get uploaded?
No. Resizing happens in this browser. We never receive the files.
Can I change the size?
Yes. The preset is a starting point. Width, height, and fit can be overridden.
