Which format should I pick?

Choose JPG for everyday photos and anything you will email or text. Almost every app can open it.

Choose PNG for screenshots, logos, and pictures with sharp text. The file is often larger, but it stays crisp.

Choose WebP if the photo is going on a website. It is usually smaller than JPG and still looks good.

Choose GIF when you need that format for an old site or chat. It is a still picture (no animation) and photos look best as JPG or WebP.

Drop an SVG to turn a logo or icon into a bitmap. Use PNG if you need a see-through background. There is a dedicated SVG to PNG page for that.

Tips

  • JPG cannot keep a see-through background. Clear areas become white.
  • SVG logos keep a clear background if you save as PNG (or WebP). Icons without a size become 1024 pixels on the long edge.
  • GIF is a still picture. An animated GIF becomes one frame.
  • iPhone HEIC photos convert in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. A decoder runs locally when the browser cannot open HEIC itself. Very old browsers may still need a JPG from the iPhone.
  • AVIF from the web converts the same way. Animated AVIF is not supported.
  • If someone cannot open a WebP file, convert it to JPG instead.
  • You can convert many photos at once. They still never leave this device.

Can I convert an SVG?
Yes. Drop the SVG and save as PNG to keep a transparent background. JPG fills clear areas with white. Small icons are drawn at 1024 pixels on the long edge unless you set a max width. There is a dedicated SVG to PNG page if that is the whole job.
Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes, in current Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Drop the HEIC and save as JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF. The decoder runs in this tab, so the photo never leaves the device. On a very old browser that cannot run it, save a JPG on the iPhone first (Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible).
Can I convert AVIF?
Yes. Modern browsers can open AVIF. Save as JPG for email and older apps, or PNG if you need a still graphic. Animated AVIF is not supported.
